Patchwork Ornament

I got the idea for this ornament from Patty Bennett's blog. We made them at stamp club this month and everyone loved them.

I started with a round coaster that I have had sitting around for probably three years and then I colored the edge with my Chocolate Chip marker, so that the edge is not so noticeable. Then I covered both sides with Bella Rose designer paper. Even though it's not really a Christmas paper, I thought that the red, green and brown were Christmas-y. After I covered the coaster and trimmed the paper, I covered the front with one inch squares of the various patterns in the Bella Rose paper.

I was going to leave it with just the paper, but then I realized that the snowflake from the Word Flurries Rub-ons fit perfectly! I finished the ornament off with a Jumbo Brad and Kiwi Kiss grosgrain ribbon.

Teacher Gifts

The last day of school was Wednesday, so now I can post the teacher gifts that I made for my daughter's preschool teachers and the Director and Assistant Director of the school. We love the school my daughter goes to and all of the staff is wonderful, so I really enjoyed making gifts for them.

I made each of them a set of monogram note cards. I used the same layout for each set and just changed the colors and Designer Paper. I used patterned papers that have retired that I still had. I also included a candle I found at the Target Dollar Spot and decorated with the I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit. Finally I included a decorated notepad.

To create the skinny notepad, I bought a pack of 8 1/2 x 11 lined notepads (make sure you get ones that don't have the red lines down the right side) and then I took the to the copy shop and had them cut in half so that were 4 1/4 x 11. I decorated the notepad using the Summer Home Simply Scrappin Kit. I made a ribbon loop to hold a pen and attached it with Stick Strip.
I'm already on the lookout for ideas for end of the year gifts. What gifts did you make this year? I would love to see what you did.

Color Inspiration

It's another color inspiration! I really love how this card turned out. I was trying to use a set that I hadn't used in a while, so I decided on Pick a Petal. Really, I was trying to avoid another Pocket Silhouette Card! I just have to say that those of you who come to my classes may see this card again soon, so I hope you like it too!

I have to apologize for my lack of posts. What with getting ready for the Holidays, I have really been a slacker. I also think that posting everyday in November burned me out rather than turning into a good habit, but I am really going to try to post more regularly. I am happy to report that all of the Christmas cards have been mailed, the gifts have been shipped and I only have two more gifts to make and wrap for family that will be here for Christmas. And I've still got a week to go!

One of the sets I used in my card is the Canvas background. That's one of the sets that will be retiring as of Jan 18th. Did you know that until Dec 23rd you can get any retiring set for 10% off? You can also get FREE shipping when you spend $70. You can check out all of the retiring sets by visiting my website and clicking SHOP NOW and then Specials!

Supplies for this card are: Canvas, Heard from the Heart and Pick a Petal Stamp sets; So Saffron, Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze and Very Vanilla card stock; Chocolate Chip and So Saffron Classic ink; Paper Snips; Crafter's Tool Kit; Stampin' Dimensionals.

Children's Birthday Cards

I saw a similar layout recently as a Christmas card and I decided to make it into some cute children's cards with Wild About You. I am always sending birthday cards, but I sometimes have a hard time finding a kid's or masculine card, so I plan on making several more of these!

The alligator and giraffe are stamped on Whisper White card stock that is on the inside of the card. I punched a 1 1/4 inch circle in the card and then created the scalloped edge by first punching the 1 1/4 circle in a piece of card stock then centering the Scallop Circle around the punched circle and punching.

Materials for this card are:
Wild About You stamp set and Happy, Happy Birthday Jumbo Wheel; Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Kiwi Kiss and Whisper White card stock; Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango and Kiwi Kiss Classic ink; 1 1/4 inch circle and Scallop Circle punches; Bashful Blue Striped grosgrain ribbon.

Welcome Baby

Kristina brings us another wonderful color inspiration this week! The colors in this inspiration said baby to me so I used Nursery Necessities for my card this week. I did have to add some Whisper White to my card and while I was typing up this blog entry I realized that I didn't use and Perfect Plum. Oops! I hope you enjoy my card anyway!

I stamped this card yesterday afternoon, but I waited until this morning to take a photo, hoping that I would have better light. No such luck. It's rainy and gloomy today. The streetlights are still on in our neighborhood and it's almost 10:00. So I have to apologize for the picture, but it's the best I could get today.

Materials for this card are:

Nursery Necessities stamp set; Pale Plum, Bordering Blue; Sage Shadow and Whisper White card stock; Bordering Blue Classic stamp pad and VersaMark pad; Sage Shadow, Bordering Blue and Pale Plum Stampin' Write Markers; Celery grosgrain ribbon; Crafter's Tool Kit; Stampin' Dimensionals.

Joy Garland, Part 2

I promised I would show you when I hung up my Joy garland! Since my daughter is 16 months old, we decided not to put up our Christmas tree this year. We don't have a place to put a tree that we can keep her away from it and we decided we would rather not have a tree than to be constantly telling her no, don't touch that. (We seem to be doing plenty of that lately without adding a tree.)

I still wanted to have some of our Christmas ornaments out so I bought a couple of artificial garlands at the craft store to decorate with. While I was decorating I realized that the Joy garland I made would look really nice hung with one of the pine garlands. So here it is hanging in the doorway between the kitchen and dining room.

New Color Inspiration

It's time for another color inspiration from Kristina Werner! I have to say I was very surprised and honored to have be chosen in Kristina's top ten from last week's inspiration! I almost fell off the couch when I realized that one of the thumbnails on her post was my card.

I really liked this color combination and I think that I might be using this card in one of my classes soon.

Materials for this card are:

Party Hearty stamp set; Certainly Celery, Taken with Teal, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White card stock; Taken with Teal Classic pad; Taken with Teal, Certainly Celery and Pumpkin Pie markers; Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon; Crafter's Tool Kit.
